In an effort to help parents who have homeschooled high school students prepare for college, Cameron University-Duncan will present “Navigating the High School Years.” The free, informational session is set for Thursday, July 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. at CU-Duncan. Interested parents and students from southwest Oklahoma are welcome to attend either virtually or in person.

The workshop will cover how to build a transcript and includes an overview of Oklahoma graduation requirements. It will also provide information about dual credit through concurrent enrollment, an initiative that encourages high school juniors and seniors to enroll in college classes to simultaneously earn credit towards a college degree and a high school diploma. Eligible students can attend college classes either in person or online. Tuition waivers are available to those who qualify.
“Parents who choose to homeschool their children often conduct a lot of research to ensure their students are obtaining a high quality education,” says Dakota Kaus, director of CU-Duncan. “At the same time, they may still be in need of tips and additional resources to help prepare their children for a postsecondary experience. By offering this informational session, we hope to lay the groundwork for a smooth transition from earning a high school diploma to enrolling in a post-secondary program.”
“Navigating the High School Years” is the first in a proposed series of information sessions aimed at homeschooled students and their parents. Kaus plans to offer additional sessions during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.
